The best way to keep WordPress up to speed is to follow our WordPress maintenance guide.
But if you’re not sure what you’re doing, we’ve put together a handy step-by-step guide to get you started.
If you’ve been using WordPress since its launch in 2007, you’ve probably already got some plugins installed and a WordPress.org account, but if you haven’t, these steps should help you get started.
Get your domain registrar’s contact information 2.
Download and install WordPress from WordPress.com 3.
Find the plugins you need to install 4.
Check for updates 5.
Click the “Update” button 6.
Check the “Run Maintenance” box 7.
Choose which maintenance phases to apply (for example, monthly maintenance, weekly maintenance, monthly security updates, annual security updates) 8.
Click “Run” to finish the process 9.
Now you should be able to install new plugins with ease.
We’ve also added a plugin manager to help you keep track of which plugins are currently being installed.
